James Davey
Musical Director
James Davey is one of the UK's most distinguished and respected choral directors, in demand for his work as a conductor, choir trainer, arranger, adjudicator and fixer.
Formerly the chief choral advisor for the BBC's sheet music archive, James has delivered projects for the BBC Singers Education Department and regularly conducts and prepares choirs for broadcasts on TV and radio, as well as providing professional ensembles to the entertainment and advertising industries. As well as leading Halstead Choral, at the heart of his busy schedule James is Musical Director for Chantage (winners of the Malta International Choral Competition 2015 and the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year Competition 2006), the Chandos Chamber Choir, Amici Cantate and the Dart Festival Chorus. He also directs 4Tunes, the award-winning staff choir at Channel 4 Television. James is a tutor and member of the Council of Practitioners for the Association of British Choral Conductors, offering guidance to conductors all over the UK, and is a co-founder of the London International Choral Conducting Competition.
